A Clear Starlit Night Under a Blanket of Snow

written by: Gerry Stefanson

what a night, Christmas Eve
engagement party to boot
all gathered at my wife’s brother’s apartment,
music, feast, decorations, in-laws & out-laws
and all the in betweens

our seventeen month old
bursting with wonder and joy

but the main event was “Kyle”
on route from Hospital to home
life is not much fuller and brighter
hard to imagine any greater and lighter
we sang, hugged, celebrated and loved

fifteen years later
we hugged, reminisced, grieved and loved.

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:

his life and world wedged
in between,
so much, so good, so smart
so sad – ended.
