to question why
reply denied
unmasked – the lie
I choked then cried
consumed
with shame
a mortal wound
I died a little bit
that day
the words you spewed
cut to the quick
I flinched and bristled
with regret
loathing filled
my every pore
I gathered up
my injured pride
denouncing you
denouncing love
