The Fissured Heart

The Fissured Heart

The fissured heart
hard to conceive
if only visible
to me and me

Years of heart-breaks
tell-tale signs
bloodlines run
along the faults

Scars and cracks
disguised by flesh
no one knows
what lies beneath

Smiles belie
the damage done
by hurt and pain
and swallowed pride

Fractured hopes
and broken dreams
microscopic
ruptured veins

Splintered wishes
stifled cries
cleave the chasms
deep within

The fissured heart
hard to conceive
if only visible
to me and me

Why write?
I write because I am:
Driven to distraction by the inequities of the society in which we live.
Motivated by cruelty, abuse, ignorance and indifference.
My intention: To poke, prod and provoke!
"Moderation is a fatal thing. Nothing succeeds like excess." - Oscar Wilde
