All I Want for Christmas Are the Polar Ice Caps

written by: Gabriel Bates

It’s the 25th
of December.

I look out the window
and squint at the sun,
confused as to why
it’s 75 degrees outside.

It feels like
we’re celebrating the holiday
in Australia.

I think about global warming
and all that ice melting
and how we’re screwed
if it all disappears.

Because even Santa
can’t replace that.
