Ashes to Ashes

Ashes to Ashes

The charred remains of my heart
Taste like the ashes
Off the tips of the cigarettes I used to smoke.
I quit smoking because after I met you,
I didn’t feel the need
To swallow my feelings whole and
Let them suffocate me in loneliness
You felt like a soul mate
I looked into your eyes
And felt a sense of peace
Your face was perfect
How then did you manage to rip through my life
Like a tornado
And leave me devastated and destroyed
Leaving someone else to pick up the pieces?
