David Thoenen is a retired IBM consultant who writes as a hobby in his retirement. He views writing as important mental exercise, a stimulus to maintain the health of an aging brain. David is inspired in his writing by lifetime experience of international travel and a passion for outdoor activities, especially mountaineering.. He has lived in the Bahamas (on a sailboat, the source of many a tale), Iran, Hong Kong and Belgium. David is drawn to creative non-fiction, memoir and short fiction. His published works include a short piece of mountaineering satire, Rum Doodle Alpine Style, which appeared in Rock and Ice Magazine and is now available on Kindle. David splits his time between his home in Raleigh, NC, his condominium on the beach on Topsail Island, NC (where in the peace of the off season he finds infinite creative energy), and a bulkhead seat on an Airbus 800 in flight to an exotic destination in search of the next chapter of his memoirs.
