Away

I started writing you
at least four letters,
probably more.
All the things I
want(ed) to say.
I never finish(ed) one.
Reading them later,
I never feel the same.
So I throw them all
away.
I loved you
in a space that was full, along
the tree line by the sea;
the rip current
taking me under
and
pulling
me
away.

Melissa Lemay lives in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, with her three children, four cats, and a dog. She never graduated college. She has lived an interesting life, and her experiences shape her writing (some might call it an obsession). She writes about God, addiction, trauma, healing, motherhood, and many other things.
