Bernie

Bernie

written by: Zach Zajac

I need to stop arguing politics with my parents.
It never goes well.
I could have the best points about the economy
Or the role of government
Or anything else I pretend to understand
But the second the monsters who raised me get involved
All those points melt away
And become a thick fog of childhood trauma
And I end up saying something stupid.
“I wish Bernie Sanders was my real dad!
President. President. I mean president.”
And that’s not how you change hearts and minds
At Grandma’s funeral.
