By Chance

By Chance

written by: Ifeanyi Sibling

Saturday, the last time I saw you,
Pain, tears, and sadness came to me
Held hostage as I negotiated my release,
Nothing fruitful as they remained unyielding
Rather, their ropes tightened around me
Crippling my hopes of freedom,
Slowly they ate my desire and will

And then by serendipity, I saw you again
More beautiful than the last time we met
Loosened by your presence and love,
Regained my soul and I sought after you
In a bid to make you mine in perpetuity
