Cave-Dwelling Birds

You and I, lovers of solitude.
gratified in each other’s company,
You, doing your thing; me, doing mine
Finding the in-between, content with just being.

You and I, lovers of freedom.
Eager to spread our wings, fly to unknown lands,
build a nest on foreign trees.
Unwilling to be caged, protective of our own.

You and I, I have a word to describe us.
I, the talker; you, the listener.
You, the dreamer; I, the thinker.
I, cautious; you, the risk-taker.

You, who, say, I make you better
I, who, say, you make us better.
Us, we are ‘Cave-dwelling birds’
Finding our way through the darkness

Making our way to the light

in communion

hand-in-hand.
