I saw him waiting in his car.
He looked like trouble, and I was intrigued.
We started talking, laughing among the back-issue bins,
looking at the artwork under flickering fluorescents and dust-laced shelves—
stoic, militant, like he’d stepped off the page
of a forgotten war comic,
all straight spine and purpose,
with kind green eyes
waiting to be written.
Total plot twist.
And that smile?
Rated “M” for Mature… and Maybe Dangerous.
We met like all great stories do—
on an app with low standards and high hopes.
And suddenly I’m sipping a milkshake,
being interviewed,
listening to him ask questions like he’s CIA,
evaluating my dating dossier,
while I’m trying not to choke
because I think he’s adorable
and possibly a little insane.
The park was my idea—
benches, skateboards, birds, and bushes.
He held my hand like it was part of a training drill,
but his thumb stroked mine
like he’d done this before.
We sat, cracked jokes,
watched kids fly on wheels,
and kissed like teenagers
who knew where all the cameras were
and didn’t care.
Behind bushes, under trees,
we found places the butterflies haven’t even mapped.
His kisses tasted like secrets
and slight danger.
Demonstrating his strength, his hand against my back,
effortlessly holding me up, my knees weak,
while I shake in his arms,
his hands everywhere—
this man had field tactics,
and I was enthusiastically conquered.
Date two?
Less public, more private.
The way he moved—
confident, slow,
like a man who reads manuals and ignores none of them.
He held me like I was breakable,
then broke me anyway—
taking pleasure in giving me pleasure,
hard, strong, taking my breath away
in the best way.
Later, pizza and TV.
I was ruined, relaxed,
curled in his arms like a satisfied sin,
while he looked smug enough to know
I’d be back for the sequel.
He’s a creator of rare things—
models and paint, quiet laughs,
videos of cats, a secret mask…
And me?
I walked into that comic warehouse
looking for a new story.
I left
already part of the plot.
