Deadwood

Deadwood

written by: Jaya Abraham

Much like the pause
Between the lines of a poem
Much like the thoughtless steps
Of a woman in the kitchen
The deadwood of a day
Floats by, not mourned.

Whom did I love today
Whom did I annihilate
In whose fathomless sorrow
Did my drowning oars sob,
The deadwood of a day
Floats by, not mourned.

Whose hearth is ashen today
Whose cradle is empty
In whose sullen dreams
Did the stars catch fire,
The deadwood of a day
Floats by, not mourned
