Death Of A Poet

Death of a Poet

written by: Madeline St.Martin

Death looms behind a poet.
Ever whispering sweet symphonies,
Songs of grief and greed.

Yet no ever discusses the death of poet.
It’s slow and agonizing.
Death does not kill a poet
Life does.

Life muffles the pretty words of wordsmith.
Life leads a poet to their demise.
Every sonnet,
Every ballad,
Buried under the cloak of mediocrity that envelopes humanity.

A poet flees from life.
Hiding behind pages,
Escaping the grasp of reality.
A poet dies every second, slain by silence.
Killed by fame,
Murdered by profundity.

Poets don’t float upon their ravishing words,
They drown in them.
