Ephemeral Poems

Ephemeral Poems

written by: Vasile Trif

In the amusement park at the outskirts of the city
my best friend
charmingly sells for a smile
to every passerby
ephemeral poems
short poems
but strong in impact
words like raindrops
hitting the dry lands
seeds of the joy of living
hidden most of the time
deep
very deep
under lock and key
my best friend
he stays there day and night
he is not thirsty
he is not hungry
he is not cold
clothed barely in the tender bark of words

the amusement park was recently moved
in another noisy city
a year has passed –
two
three
five
and he is still there
like a sage of Tibet
motionless
feeding only on the rays of the sun
in his body
the birds of the air have made their nests
and he speaks through them
and with them
like Francis of Assisi

people come
they keep coming
to purchase by the thousands
curious children touch it
they press their ears to his heart
to hear the beat of the poems
and only they
they alone
receive them as a gift
