First Day of Spring, 2024

Winter is on the hoof,
back-pedalling to its place
on the shelf. Pink chandeliers
of magnolias, lion maned
daffodils, and snowdrops
casting their light are the norm.
Whatever is permeating
through the air is filtering
past dandelions in full roar
to the moss: Keep one eye
on it – plotting, thinking,
aiming for the long term.
This is what spring awakens.
