Fixed Points of Interest

written by: Christian Ward

No matter how fast the room spins
like a spinning top challenging itself
to outdo its previous records,
the bed, shelves and desk will remain
anchor points in the landscape to come.
The gargoyle of an unkempt garden
might blossom into an oasis
or be an astronaut’s feverish dream,
but still there’ll be a bed, shelves and desk.
The sky might be reduced to vapours
off a pipe. The moon a golf ball.
These three things will anchor you
to a necessary reality, some reason
for being, for taking one step
after the other — even as the rain
takes notes on how to proceed
with your downfall.
