Funny

It’s funny, isn’t it?
How we all crave control and freedom at the same time.
It’s funny how they mean separate things but go hand in hand.
I spent the majority of my life making decisions and then second-guessing them.
Decisions that led to some feeling of freedom,
While wanting to control what that freedom felt like.
Isn’t that funny?

I also think it’s funny how I spent years hating a body
Others would fall in love with.
I think that’s kind of funny, too.

And love— oh, don’t get me started.
Love.
That’s genuine humor, isn’t it?
We convince ourselves it isn’t,
while we immerse others in the most cinematic thing imaginable.

But I think love is funny.
It makes me giggle.
It makes my tummy hurt.
It even makes me smile just from the thought of it
It comes in waves, like jokes in conversations.
It stops you in your tracks, like seeing a $10 bill on your way to work.
It’ll make you cry,
like watching the news.
And angry…
like watching the news.
I don’t know.
I just think it’s funny how a single word,
an emotion, could have so much control over you.
It’s funny how we all want freedom from it.
