Goodnight

Goodnight

The luminous, reassured smile your children show
lifting blankets to their chin
eyes closed, snuggled in
as bedroom lights turn down
for the trip to Sleepy Town

One more whispered I love you
as you grip the door—peek in, watching
their calm breathing
cartoon blankets lazily rising

Beaming
your heart swells with love
so thankful for their life
and all the tomorrows together
to come
