Hiding The Rats

written by: Stark Hunter

her green house is hiding the rats
old grandmother sips tea in a steel wheelchair
the avocado tree next door understands her complaints
pretty daughter-in-law brings toasted crumbs on a tray
ancient grandmother gives her a long death stare
the house windows sniff dust and sneeze selfish atoms
the basement steps are splattered with paralyzed prayers
outside the bored embalmer awaits with a golden timepiece
floating fronds from the old graveyard nearby
hover high like lost love birds
dying grandmother remembers now her first kiss
