Home (What else do we have?)

Home

(What else do we have?)

written by: Amber Lethe

Fairies dance around me
Green grass ripples
Puffs of white paint the sky
Dandelions fly in the breeze
Home has never looked so beautiful.

Lavender scrapes my legs as I walk
The breeze plays with loose strands
My feet sink into the cool mud
Leaving a mark on this Earth
Home has never felt so beautiful.

A bubbling brook from childhood
lives on in the distance
Happiness rushes through me as
fond memories cloud my brain
Home was beautiful from childhood.

The edges of the world start to light up
My breaths turn shallow
The meadow starts to stir
Birds get ready to sing
Home has never sounded so beautiful.

Finally,
Fire cracks over the horizon
Its flickering flames light up the sky
In a mighty blaze of orange and violet
Home has never felt so alive.

Warmth blooms like sunflowers in my chest
as the sun hugs me
Silhouettes glide through the sky
Their songs of passion ring out freely
Home has never felt so free.

Sinking to the ground, I take it all in one last time.
Rustles of the grass.
Songs of the birds.
The warmth of the sun.
Home has never felt so fragile.

Pain echoes through my bones
My heart thrashes
fighting hopelessly
My knees sink into the Earth
Home has never felt so miserable.

The world grows silent
watching somberly,
I die under the fiery sky
My spirit seeps away into the wind
Home has never felt so peaceful.
