I…. Love…. You
written by: JOHN BAVERSTOCK
He stroked her hair,
Then kissed her lips,
Wrapped her hand,
Inside his fingertips,
His love, his life,
His beautiful now stricken wife,
Lay dying,
Her cancer,
Had won the day,
Tears streaming from his eyes,
Her life slowly ebbing away,
They had shared,
forty-two years together,
Not only his wife,
but his best friend,
How he was going to cope without her,
A thought he could not comprehend,
She looked at him,
Her eyes heavy and tired,
I…. LOVE…. YOU,
Thank…. you….
Then a sigh,
she managed…. only one more breath….
Before closing her eyes,
FOR THE VERY LAST TIME.
