I Shall Not Share a Night with Her…

I Shall Not Share a Night with Her…

written by: Dmitriy Belyanin

I shall not share a night with her:
My life and pain cannot be shared.
Romance of ours would only hurt,
Hence, of this role I should be spared.
It’s sweeter, love that will not end
Called friendship, with no special plans.
She’s sisterlike, my female friend,
And meeting her gives life more sense.
Small segments of our fate suffice,
They help us sense new worlds, unknown,
To break away from stir and cries,
And leave doghouses that we own.
No need for lust to add to this,
No carnal joys in times of sad,
Till on my own path, full of mist,
I’ll leave my burrow that I dread.
Yet even then, I won’t forget
My female friend of gone by youth,
Remaining chaste without regret,
Keep friends with her, may life be smooth.
I won’t be grudging her new fate
When she shall find her home and husband,
Our joys won’t end in rage or hate:
She’ll stay my friend, to me accustomed.

So, may my lady understand me,
With whom I’ll share my daily life,
I shall explain about my friend, and
Remain loyal to my wife.
And if my wife is friends with others,
I won’t be jealous of these men:
If I’m among her cares, not bothers,
I’ll wait and love, will not pretend.
My female friend, she won’t start talking,
She will not make a caustic sound,
Won’t enter quarrels without knocking,
She’ll let our home remain sound.
