I Want to Believe

I Want to Believe

written by: Richard LeDue

there’s a soul we can’t see
inside bach’s music
or in those quiet moments
when the voice inside our heads
worries about all the unsaid
hellos instead of goodbyes

that empty whisky bottles
empty people out
worse than the devil
playing cards on a sunday

i’m not
just another forgotten name
in all my past lives
where the only ghosts
are all my mistakes
i allowed to teach me
nothing

in the tunnel we follow
towards a light
we assume isn’t ours
but a god we need
so we have someone else
to blame
