Lament of the Dead

Lament of the Dead

written by: Sahendra Mallick

Would that mine eyes had never beheld such woe,
The scars from the wicked that leave no trace,
Yet never are they damned for what they sow,
Their sins concealed, no shame, no disgrace.

Would that mine ears had never heard wails so deep,
Of those betrayed by lies and hearts untrue,
In the harrowing nights, the broken shadows weep,
Humanity, once strong, dissolves like dew.

Would that my tongue had never found voice to tell,
Of all the wrongs that tear the world apart,
For words, though spoken true, no bruise can fade,
Nor heal the pain, that poor fragile heart.

In dark streets where the savage seeks and justice hides,
Stand still I would, and see the storms collide.
