Late Capitalist Death Cult

Late Capitalist Death Cult

written by: Shelly Norris

Tiny-minded sycophants
cannot handle a problem
that can’t be simply fixed
by sacrificing
expendables.

Faced with crises
they can’t resolve with violence,
they dither and whine and waste
hours that can and will be counted
still in corpses.

There is no vision.
These men cannot imagine
any future beyond the image
of themselves cast in gold
atop the human heap.

Speeches from podiums
suggest a certain percentage
of collateral damage
reasonable price for others to pay
to maintain their status quo.

The 24-hour airwaves balloon
with hot wind of spineless zealots
betting fortunes on social Darwinism
and who accidentally exhale
their privileged thoughts aloud.
