Lines on Her Face

Lines on Her Face

written by: Kendal Kraft

Lines on her hands, lines on her face, but all I see is her beautiful grace. She earned those lines with each trial and tribulation she’s endured through her life. It’s a sign of strength and progress, not ugliness or decline. They tell us to see it as a curse, but I think there is so much worse. She has wisdom and knowledge for days, and her lines hold it all in like some sort of glaze.
She has the spirit she held as a child, sprinkled and compiled with life’s miles. The wrinkles and crinkles that decorate her beautiful face are a blessing that a lot don’t get to claim. The lines on her face are a beautiful road map showing every expression she’s ever made. The lines on her face show how far she came. The lines on her face shouldn’t bring her any shame.

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:

This Poem is one that I think is very important. It goes over society’s fears of getting and looking older, and how we don’t need to feel that way. Its something society has, over time, engraved into our minds and became a standard. I’m 22 and in the past have been afraid of getting older because the “negatives” of it are talked about so much. But I look around me at all the women who are older than me and do have lines on their faces, and think they’re gorgeous and aspire to be like them. It’s a gift. I don’t think I ever truly would have begun thinking about aging negatively if the media and society hadn’t told me that so much. Life is beautiful, and so is every age.
