Loneliness

Loneliness

written by: Ariti Jankie

All twelve of them loved her
Loved her as she loved them
The difference between mother
and children being
Hers was a liquid love
Theirs were locked in their hearts.

She sat there waiting
watching the road hoping to see them arrive.
Too often night fell, a new day dawned
to find her sitting there waiting.
Love fell from her eyes in tears.
Loneliness like a hole in her abdomen.

Love as pure as honey
is not enough
even unconditional love
is not enough
in the absence of a relationship.
the navel string bond, whether far or near
to receive the warmth of a love embrace.

She used to say, “the longest rope has an end.”
Realization dawn in her empty hours
grieving for her loved ones.
She came alone and must go alone.
How foolish it was to expect love from a barren world.
