Longing for the Moon

Longing for the Moon

written by: Mehwish Tayyab

Sitting by the shore, in the night,
I try to figure out my heart’s plight
To look at you from far away,
To the place where wishes sway—
Above, the stars await their fall,
As I see my desires up there crawl,
Surrounded by endless glad tides,
They try to calm my heart, and guide.
As I look up into the sky,
My heart aches and sigh,
It longs for the moon’s gentle light,
To see the beloved, swoon in sight.
Outside, the ocean’s quiet and blue
Tall waves crash in me — without any clue.
Here, my purple heart plays its tune,
Because it only longs for your moon.
