Murder at Dawn

A Haunting in the Mist

written by: Sharona Reeves

Autumn creeps in with a chilling breeze,
A murder in the yard at dawn.
Bloodstains smeared on the haunted door,
Pumpkins grinning on the porch, forlorn.
A shattered window screen, torn wide,
A lifeless body, where shadows hide.
Crows caw under the pale moon’s gaze,
The air thick with fear, in a Halloween haze.

A murder in the yard at dawn—
Was it a crime of passion, or a dark spell drawn?
A victim’s scream, or a villain’s curse?
A ghostly secret, or something far worse?

Yet, amidst the terror, a strange sight appears—
A baby fawn frolics, unaware of fears,
In the misty fog, with lanterns aglow,
Unbothered by the chilling tale below.

A murder in the yard at dawn,
In the season where nightmares spawn.
