One Halloween

I jumped into a jumpsuit
and pinned on a homemade nametag
that read ‘VENKMAN’
in red font.
I rocked up at a Halloween party
to the sound of ‘Monster Mash’—
not the Ghostbusters theme—
and proceeded to pull off
a poor Venkman impression,
complete with warm expression.
I left my plastic proton pack
at the front door,
feeling no need to pretend
to bust ghosts on Halloween.
I just got a green drink
and mingled with monsters.
