Puzzlementation

written by: Gerry Stefanson

the PUZZLE must have been bumped, err some how spilled
all over the living room floor
(I mean literal LIVING ROOM).
this was not a “come by chance moment”
this was our game of LIFE

DICE yet to be rolled, tumbling in front of us
yet, with laughter
we saw the sport, unknowing
becoming our “day to days”
not spotting a missing player, on the home team

JENGA tower pieces floating in air
forgone grandparents trying to puzzles
that would never rejoin
thrilled by unseen hands of help
that changed nothing

the RISK of not finding Colonel Mustard
with his hand in the cookie jar
in chambers of Miss Scarlett led us to pause
we never rode the train to Disney Land or Hogwarts
we were ever present and real, we loved, we’ve lost

life’s games are for Gods and Politicians
we the players/gamers
the ones treading the boards
quickly learn the price of admission
penalties served

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:

Board games, important for learning boundaries, social skills interactions, ah! “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
