Return to Nature

Return to Nature

written by: Mayumi Yamamoto

I don’t remember how long I’ve been lying in bed.

No pain anywhere.
Not even an itch.
The cat climbs my pillow.

I see the sky from my bed.
Below, the blooming flower garden.

Night breaks.
The cat licks my face.
A new day has begun.

I may not be here to see this same view tomorrow.

The cat slips from the bed.
She ventures out to enjoy her day.
I watch her leave, and say,
“Thank you for celebrating this day.”

Soon, she leads my soul to the woods
where she plays.
