Shade Dispenser

Shade Dispenser

written by: Steve Green

Before I became
the black cloud I am today
I used to care deeply
about my fellow man

Filled with a sense of empathy
and feelings of empowerment

Naive me
actually believed that I mattered

People would listen
with great respect
for my every profound utterance

But alas
the world was too wrapped up
in its own cynical agenda

Made me and my noble intentions
feel foolishly irrelevant

Now I chirp satirically irreverently

A humor shield
defense mechanism
from ever being hurt again
the way open hearts always do

A bitter mockingbird
hopping around
with clipped wings
and a rotten attitude
