- Where do you originate from?
I was born in Jamaica but grew up in Canada. Jamaica will always have my heart—it’s the people, the food, and that rich cultural connection to Africa that I love so much. But Canada’s given me a broader view of the world, so both places are part of who I am.
- What do you cherish most about the place you call home?
Home for me is by design. Wherever I live I create a sense of sanctuary so that my heart is at peace. What I cherish most about the place I call home is that it’s my creative sanctuary. It’s filled with art, nature, and love—each corner tells a story or sparks an idea. It’s where I can fully be myself, surrounded by things that bring me peace and inspiration.
- What ignites your creativity?
Oh my … so many things! But I’ll narrow it down to nature, art, travel, and even the everyday moments of life. A sunrise, a meaningful conversation, or just a good book can set my creative wheels turning. I’m always looking for beauty in the world around me, and that’s where my creativity flows from.
- Do you have a favorite word and could you incorporate it into a poetic phrase?
My favorite word is love. It’s the heartbeat of everything I do.
I’ll use it in the poetic form—a Senryu:
I’m in love with love
Epicenter of my heART
Beat. Love rhapsody
- What is your pet peeve?
Inauthenticity. I really can’t stand when people aren’t genuine. I’m all about real, honest connections—life’s too short for anything else.
- How would you describe the essence of Dawn Minott?
If I had to sum up the essence of me, I’d say: I’m deeply spiritual, a lover of God, and someone who finds joy in nature, art, and love itself. At my core, I’m artsy, soulful, and unapologetically me—always looking to capture the magic of life in both words and experiences. I’m a poet, storyteller, and lover of all things creative. I’m the author of Moments: A Poetic Autobiography, where I pour out my love for words. My blog, CreatedByDeesign, is a space where I share my thoughts on life’s beautiful complexities.
