  1. Where do you originate from?

Life is hard to predict. Predestination! My fate is an example. I was born in 1962 in Gdansk, Poland, where my father’s family came from. In the years 1966-1985, I lived in the capital of the country, Warsaw. Those were certainly very turbulent times, which strongly influenced my personality. It is known what the political, social, etc. situation was in Poland at that time. My first poems began to appear in underground magazines very early. At the end of 1985, I emigrated from Poland and settled in Copenhagen, Denmark. Everything changed then. But I often visit Warsaw, Poland now. I have friends and family in Poland.

  1. What do you cherish most about the place you call home?

Home for me is planet Earth. A strange place in the solar system, somewhere on the outskirts of the Milky Way. I was born here and I will die here. I have lived in Denmark much longer than I lived in Poland. Copenhagen is my “physical” home. The city is located on an island. So I am an islander living on Earth, born in Gdansk. Copenhagen is my earthly home. I live in a very small apartment in the southern part of this city. Another issue is that I would call my own body my home. I am somewhere between transcendence and gravity and quantum theory. It is hard to say what is going on around me and what the Universe is. Maybe it is solipsism, nobody really knows.

  1. What ignites your creativity?

This is a complicated question. A human being has an innumerable number of neurons in the brain. They are our receptors. In my literary and visual artwork, creativity is stimulated by the entire color of the world. The rise and fall of the world, inside and outside me. Creativity is also another human being. Loneliness is terrible. Hermits do not have an easy life. A human being is a great mystery. Stimulation and a great defeat. The meaning of life, the motor skills of breathing, and all activity are connected with the people functioning next to us. Creativity is the colors, sounds, nuance, and roughness of our planet. It is also worth remembering that every moment of life can be different. One day we read Plato, and the next we watch the sea or talk with someone we love deeply. Space is unpredictable. Emotions are sometimes beyond our control.

  1. Do you have a favorite word and could you incorporate it into a poetic phrase?

Every second, minute, hour, even in sleep has its phases, favorite words. Sometimes they are sequences, words that tire, others, like in mantras, bring us relief. It seems to me that there would be many such words. Maybe it is not strange, but recently I have often thought about the word eyes. It is such a classic, popular word. It appears in my poetic sequence:

NOBODY LOOKS YOU IN THE EYES

Everyone necessarily wants to save
world.
They talk about encounters with the divine
entity or become members of a syndicate.
People are walking towards the fire and selling
building plots on Mars.
And no one looks you in the eyes.
In a maze of concrete, fake lotteries
and paid love,
there’s nothing left.

Nobody looks you in the eyes.

Eyes are telescopes. Many mammals do not like to be looked into. Eyes are love and hate. People look into each other’s eyes or turn their heads and do not look at others.

  1. What is your pet peeve?

All or nothing. I know that I am among calm and extremely nervous beings. There is a saying: everyone has their own path. We do not function in the harmonious world of nature, among pacifist sirens in a beautiful ocean. The current civilization is a real hell. The rat race. I am irritated by the daily rush. The lack of deeper interpersonal relationships, wars, and hatred. That is why I have always really liked Bob Marley’s songs. I am depressed by what is happening in the world. I feel bad about it. Life is not always satisfying. But, not to be destructive. Sometimes you can meet beautiful and wise people. The sea can be stimulating, for example, or looking at the stars. You can find something for yourself in this our cosmos.

  1. How would you describe the essence of Grzegorz Wróblewski?

This is a very difficult question for me. I know many things about myself, and many things, even though I am older, still surprise me. I have my personal number, I know my name and when I was born. I feel a bit like a time traveler. My own reactions to people, to the phenomena of life, still surprise me. Apparently, there is such a thing as identity, soul, and personality. This is problematic for me. People are metabolism, a two-legged protein. I search for myself through literature, art, and contacts with other people. It is a kind of self-verification. My essence is an attempt to find some meaning in existence. This process will probably last until the end of my life.
