Taste in Flight

Taste in Flight…

written by: Marie-France Boissonneault

In the butcher shop where sweetness rarely gleams,
A fly buzzed about while Samantha sat lost in dreams.
It hovered above the dots of crimson hue,
Drawn to buttery rings of golden-laced macarons, too.

Into strawberry-sweet pools that pulled it near,
With pulsing pulvilli, ready to adhere.
The fly landed upon the sticky, fruity delight,
Hoping to feast from morning until night.

But a shadow loomed as her hand came down,
Samantha snapped the cookie tin lid with a frown.
It darted to the cabinet in frantic flight,
Addled by the glass, though full of might.

Now encased with chunks of metallic, salty-sweet,
Beyond the glass, it forgot its previous treat.
It flitted and fluttered with fervent glee;
Yet trapped it was, no longer longing to be free.

Until Samantha’s hand again drew near,
To shoo it gently, still reclined in her chair.
But the fly persisted; its quest was clear;
To taste every wonder that lingered near.
