The A in Autism

The A in Autism

written by: Kulraj Singh

They say the “A” in Autism
Stands for “awkward,” “alone,” “ask no questions.”
I say—please. The A stands for
“Artful,” “Awesome,” and “Actually, I’m fine.”
She doesn’t do small talk?
Lucky her.
He lines up his pencils by color?
Sounds like a Virgo with taste.
They don’t like loud sounds?
Same. Have you heard the morning bell?
See, we call it a spectrum,
Not because it’s dramatic—
But because every shade of it
Is nothing short of magic.
They might not fit the mold,
But darling, who wants to be clay anyway?
So next time someone skips eye contact
Or hums to their own beat—
Don’t call it strange.
Call it style. Call it brilliant.
Call it what it is: Different, not less.
