The Heron’s Watchful Eye

The Heron’s Watchful Eye

I watched the duck’s decent
Under the heron’s watchful eye
Gliding, slowing down
with precision

lowering himself
Onto the canal
His webbed feet a rudder
breaking up Images of reflected trees

Creating a straight line
On the waters surface
That folded in on itself
Resuming calm waters

The duck has landed
From distant waters
Tail feathers wagging
Welcomed into the fold
