The Inward Journey

The Inward Journey

written by: Vidya Venkataramanan

The Master’s canvas
Painted pine trees today,
Slanting on mountain sides,
They were
Swaying in the breeze!
In keeping with the Master’s teachings,
They were
Representing thoughts,
And feelings,
That the mind
Ceaselessly meanders
Through and
Into the caverns
Of chaos!

Not remaining still,
Tossed
This way and that
By the winds of change,
The pine trees
Reach for the skies
Hoping to anchor the constant thoughts!
But alas!
It wasn’t so!

The Master crinkled
His eyes
And said
Nothing out there
Can give you the Truth,
The answer lies within you.
Look inward,
And, like the wind
Meander through
The corridors of
Experiences,
And desires
Letting go
Of everything
That you know.
And when you reach
That silent place
Where all thoughts
Cease to exist,
Then
And only then,
the Truth
Reveals itself!

Till then, the elements
Will continue
To do
What they were meant to,
The test of putting
The mind
To quiet,
Amidst the chaos!

The trees on the canvas
Paled into
Insignificance
And faded into the distance,
The canvas was
Wiped clean,
Nothing would exist
As the journey
Inward begins!
