The Ocean Never Asks
written by: Monika Ajay Kaul
The ocean does not ask,
nor seek a say-so to rise and fall,
it simply moves—uncharted, unbothered, infinite.
What does it know of time,
but the pull of moon it never sees?
Waves speak in paradigms we can’t comprehend,
like the fleeting thoughts of a restless mind,
arriving and receding without reason.
The shore listens, always quiet,
its grains rearranged but never resisting.
We stand at the edge of it,
small, momentary beings in an endless pulse.
And yet, do we not feel vast?
Are we not, too, endless in our dreaming,
tugged by unseen forces,
shaped by our tides?
Perhaps the ocean is a mirror,
and we, reflections—
brief ripples in the current.
Not bound to be understood,
only to be.
