The Pain in Her Eyes

The Pain in Her Eyes

written by: Fathima Zahva

The pain lies in her eyes.
The pain of being betrayed.
The ache of not living,
The life she longs for.
The pain of accepting everything,
With her whole heart.

At the same moment,
The guilt lies in our hearts,
The guilt of not treating her,
The way she deserves.
The guilt of never saying,
The love we hold for her.
And that guilt, it hurts.

But, love lives in her heart,
The love that forgives,
The love that finds meaning
In everything she carries.
The love she gives, endlessly.

And seeing all of this,
Our hearts grow heavy.
Unbearably.
Wish we could give her the best.

But the pain lives in us, too.
The pain of watching her suffer
Yet we do nothing.
The pain of watching her grow old
Yet we watch.
The pain of seeing her mistreated
Yet we stay silent.
The pain aches,
But all we can do is
To feel.
