The Silent Prayer

The Silent Prayer

written by: Joan Coelho

As I was enjoying the bliss of heaven
God beckoned me and said, “My child I’m sending you to earth again.
I held on to my trembling spirit and said, “Lord aren’t you happy that I endured so much pain?
I was in a world which was barely sane,
Tattered and battered, bashed and bruised, I cried for your help but in vain.
How lucky was my neighbour’s dog, I had thought, tears dripping down my face as I sat by the window pane.
My soul is weary, I just can not explain.
So why my Lord? Why all this again?”
The Lord smiled and said, “Worry not my child, your prayers are not in vain.
You will be loved with passion,
You will be cared with compassion,
You will be free from all the strain.
For you will be born in your neighbour’s house as Rocky the Great Dane.”
