The Stage Is Set
a poem
by Anne G
The stage is set
the curtain falls
behind the scenes
the actor preps
The hearbeat quickens
my mouth goes dry
beads of moisture
hands and brow
Lines rehearsed
props prepared
the time has come
to hit the mark
Last call is made
Act I begins
“take your place
and break a leg”
I lay my heart
upon my sleeve
emotions spent
I end my speech
The sounds of silence
fill the air
time stands still
I dare not care
Applause erupts
excitement grows
bravo, brava
encore please
All doubts and fears
begin to melt
I take a bow
in gratitude
