Torn by Thorn

Torn by Thorn

written by: Nehemiah Ojochonu Egwuda

My mind thrills on the reminiscence of childhood
We roamed the street, lakes, and the woods
So adventurous as we wander in a pure mood

We lived free of anxieties
Blind to realities
We were so creative
With positive imaginations

Soon began an initiation into the society
Our purity waned with the introduction of atrocity
Then, it was just a game of absurdity
But, gradually our embers captured in this stupidity

The evils once detested became a norm
The child has blended into this form
The mind once pure is torn
With the rosy thorns

The human within the pieces strifes
Hope we will find a mender?
Silently the human moans- Ihe eme biwo!

For purity we cry
The innocence we crave
When we rescue the children from the atrocities
They will lead without anxieties.

The mender’s cry.
