Tower Block

Tower Block

I live in a wall, filed away and forgotten,
I know my neighbours well-
from the thin walls
but, they are
Invisible
to me.

I live in a wall, but, a piece of sky belongs to me.
Where I watch clouds, and dream.
High from my window, I look down
on people – and they
look down
on me.

I live in a wall, wishing I could hear the rain,
as it dances on the pavement.
Breathe in its sweet fragrance.
Feel its sting
on my face.

I live in a wall, a hawk with golden eyes
looks at me from the window ledge
Then flies out of sight, free,
will I ever
be free?
I live in a wall.
