Vagabond Tinsel

Vagabond Tinsel

written by: Sterling Warner

Tinsel along the freeway
haphazardly tossed like Mardi Gras
beads by undistinguishable hands
that most likely resembled Apollo’s
digits as he reached out for Daphne

yet without the godly luster
and determination to capture beauty.

Winds tousle thin strands silver, red,
green, and gold blowing them down
the highway like gilded tumbleweed
branches—light, airy, brilliant, bold—
till drenched by sudden showers

whence the soggy yuletide garnish ceases
to mimic festive strands of icy rainbows.
