Vampire of Desire

Vampire of Desire

written by: Sulochana Nepal

When I sit and reflect on the life,
The thoughts in my head coil like snakes in Medusa’s hair.
One relentless thought tower above them all,
What are we truly seeking, after all?

Can’t we find peace in what we hold?
Must we crave every passing thing we behold?
Insatiable is the heart’s tastebud, a fleeting fashion,
A vampire of desire, devouring with passion.

Do we truly want it, or only that others should not?
Resources, love, success and what not?
Who defined the parameters?
Who considered these as the unshakeable and ultimate ones?

This endless chase is a treadmill,
If only we could live like nature’s will.
Balanced and calm, never in haste,
Changing, yet at peace in its flow.
