Walmart
written by: Jim Wingrove
I spent my life at Walmart
And never saw the signs
Never heard the people crying
Up and down the line
I never saw the toxic news
Or baby-killing skies
I spent my life at Walmart
And never wondered why
There’s a world of goods at Walmart
And the people are sincere
And pain is just a memory
Once or twice a year
And no one ever sees you
Or asks you where you’re from
There’s a lot to love at Walmart
While you’re playing dumb
(I gave my heart to summer
When I was just a tyke
It never really mattered
What came down the pike
Sometimes we had ice cream
And sometimes we had fear
But someone always loved us
With courage and good cheer)
They’re closing down the government
And cutting off the hope
They’re giving us till Tuesday
To elect another pope
They’re bringing out the buses
That take you to the pits
And getting rid of nuisances
By blowing them to bits
By this time tomorrow
We might all be packed and gone
And no one will remember
That we suffered for so long
But I feel safe at Walmart
There are always things to do
I like the electronics
I like to look at shoes
There’s a lot to love about the world
So love it while you can
Just don’t go chasing troubadours
(And try to lend a hand)
