What Remains,

Even After You Sold the Coffee Table on Craigslist

Bottle from a cheap and cheerful vintage
served better purpose as a candle stick holder,
the long-legged runs
of hot red wax
pooled, cooled and hardened
on the walnut stained coffee table,
and his skin,
are easy to snap off, wipe clean
and throw in the outside trash,
but harder to see
the gaps in the wood grain,
like spaces between bad memories,
the wax still fills
