When it Draws Near

When it Draws Near

written by: Hannah Scott

Heartbeat drums louder,
footsteps draw closer,
hands are shaking,
eyesight is fading.
Panic is drawer nearer.

Hiding in the closet,
blackness overbearing.
Thuds of the door
banging.

Tears overflowing
sobbing.

Steps receding,
soft falls
downstairs.

Calm thoughts,
hand steady.
Dried tears and
focused eyes.

Door opens.
